HOME CONSTRUCTION
Building Decent, Affordable Homes
Habitat for Humanity builds decent and affordable homes in the Lower Florida Keys and around the world in partnership with families in need of a decent place to live. Habitat homebuyers help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.
Habitat houses are modestly sized. They are large enough for the homeowner family’s needs, but small enough to keep construction and maintenance costs down.
The labor of volunteers and partner families, efficient building methods, modest house sizes, and no-profit loans make it affordable for low-income families to purchase Habitat houses.
Home Construction in Key West & Lower Florida Keys
Habitat for Humanity of Key West and Lower Florida Keys has built multiple affordable home communities in the Lower Keys.
The most economical way in our local coomunity to build safe, code-compliant homes that are made to withstand hurricane-force weather is through modular construction.
Our multi-home communities include Habitat Landing on Big Pine Key, Bayside Landing and Loewy Landing on Big Coppitt Key and Moss Landing on Cudjoe Key.
Moss Landing, Cudjoe Key
Our latest development, Moss Landing in Cudjoe Key, consists of a total of 16 homes, with a mix of two and three bedrooms units. The name honors our late Executive Director, Mark Moss, who passed away February 13, 2018 and was instrumental in the planning of the project.
According to Habitat’s current Director, Kristina Welburn, “Mark Moss was an integral part of the Habitat for Humanity family for many years, serving as a volunteer, board member, construction manager and Executive Director. He was dedicated to the mission of creating affordable workforce housing in the lower Florida Keys as well as home renovation for low-income seniors in our community. We will be forever grateful for his years of service and his leadership and couldn’t think of a better way to honor his memory than to name our newest development after him.”
