Pre-Application Brochure

The way to begin the process of applying for a Habitat home is to complete the Pre-Application and mail or fax it to the Key West office.  Our Family Selection Committee will review your pre-application and will notify you about your eligibility for home ownership. 

If you are eligible to continue with the application process you will be notified about the next Application Meeting.  At this meeting you will receive the full home ownership application and learn detailed instructions on exactly what is involved in becoming a successful Habitat Home Owner! Each meeting may last as long as 2 hours, so plan accordingly.  Please arrange to leave children at home, as these meetings will require your full attention.

Habitat Partner Families have three things in common:

1) Ability to pay the no interest mortgage;
2) Demonstrated need and;
3) A willingness to partner with Habitat.

You and/or your family will be considered for a Habitat home if you meet the financial criteria; if your present housing is inadequate and you are unable to obtain adequate housing through other conventional means; and you are willing to partner with Habitat.  Lack of adequate housing may include problems with the present structure; water, electrical or sewage service systems; heating systems, or failure to meet city property maintenance standards.  Also taken into consideration are the number, ages and the gender of children compared to the number of bedrooms in your present home

  • The percentage of your monthly income that you currently spend on housing is considered to determine need.  You will be required to openly and fully discuss your financial situation with Habitat personnel.  All information is kept strictly confidential between you and Habitat.
  • You and your family will be considered if your annual total income is less than 120% of Monroe County Area Median Income.
