NEW WAY TO SHOP HABITAT''S RESTORE:
How would you feel if you could sell your treasures online for a profit
AND
give back to a wonderful organization at the same time?

Well, beginning Friday, November 27, 2009 you can!  Habitat for Humanity of Key West & Lower FL Keys has been working with two local volunteers who have set up a company to do just that: 
www.iHabitat.org.
This is a new venture, with exciting possibilities for our Habitat affiliate and others worldwide.  We already have some specialty ReStore items posted on it, but ANYONE can go on and post items for sale, just like EBay.  You can bid, buy now, etc.  just like EBay, but the small fees the seller pays will go to Habitat for Humanity to further our mission.

Habitat has a "Wish List" of building supplies/materials that we need to continue our work.

The items we need do not have to be brand new, but they need to be in good working order. Items can be dropped off at the Habitat ReStore, and you will receive a receipt for tax purposes.

Did you know that your gift does much more than help families escape from unsafe, unhealthy living conditions?

You’re helping local families, like the young family below, to break the cycle of poverty and build long-term financial security. Habitat’s affordable, no-profit house payments free up money for food, child care, medicine and other necessities. And research has shown that decent housing improves health, increases children’s educational achievement and strengthens community ties.




Monetary contributions are always needed and are fully tax deductible! 
Both large and small donations add up to help Habitat for Humanity fulfill its mission and help keep our work force in decent affordable homes here in the Florida Keys.

Donate by Credit Card:  You can call us at 294-9006 and provide us with a credit card donation by simply giving us your CC number and the amount you wish to contribute. 

Legacy Giving:  If you would like to leave a legacy in your will and make a meaningful charitable gift to support the ministry’s home building after your lifetime, please give us a call and we will be happy to discuss how you can make this happen.

Our Habitat affiliate hosts AmeriCorps Teams every year to assist with emergency repairs and building of the new homes as well.


Community Contribution Tax Credit Supports Local Affordable Homes

The Community Contribution Tax Credit Program is a state funded incentive to encourage businesses that collect and remit state sales tax or are registered as C-corporations to partner with those who provide affordable housing.  It is an easy process that allows a local business to designate their tax dollars to affordable housing right here in our area.

In partnering with Habitat for Humanity, the process begins with your business pledging the funds to complete a Habitat home. 

  • Members and employees of the business are invited to provide volunteer time to help complete the construction. 
  • Habitat staff will complete the application for you, requiring only some basic information and a signature of an officer of your corporation.  A copy of your check made out to Habitat for Humanity is submitted with the application to the State Department of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development by June 30. 
  • The application is approved for a credit of 50% of the appraised value of the home. 
  • A letter of approval is sent to the business.
  • The final application is filed along with the letter of approval with the Department of Revenue which then issues a check to the business for 50% of the value of the donation.

Many local businesses have taken advantage of this program and are willing to engage in it again.  We can give you names of those who are willing to speak with anyone considering this to state first-hand how simple the process is.
